I made my first apron – complete with hand-embroidered name – aged 12. The pattern of this POM and POM x Sri Sisters apron is the same as that first apron, which I still have today! Each apron comes with an optional personalised hand embroidered name or message. I hope the descriptive names will remind you and the recipient of the apron to appreciate your connection and friendship. If you’re buying the apron for yourself, let the name be a reminder to appreciate yourself!

These beautiful hand loomed tea towels provide an opportunity to share the incredible handiwork of the women at the Women's Development Centre (WDC) while providing them the opportunity to develop their confidence and skills and gain greater financial independence, training and education.

A very dear friend who shares my passion for home crafts and cooking once gifted me a tea towel with an unusual but powerful hand embroidered message: “Never let a good disaster go to waste.” Every time I use the tea towel I am reminded to try and turn my problems and disappointments into opportunities for learning.

Why not choose your own personal message for POM to embroider on these hand loomed tea towels. If nothing else, it will give you something to contemplate while doing the dishes.

Tea Towels are available plain or embroidered.

My love of lavender began over 20 years ago, when my 12-year old neighbour Fiona gifted me a pretty little hand embroidered bag filled with lavender. Fiona and her sister Lauren helped me bath and feed my three little boys every day, so she must have known I needed the lavender to relax! That gift inspired my use of lavender in the POM eye pillows.

Eye pillows are not designed to be washed. This eye pillow is enclosed in a hand loomed pillowcase made by the women at the Women's Development Centre. The pillow case will protect the eye pillow and can be washed.

Eye pillows are a useful tool to remind yourself to take five minutes of rest - or more - everyday. Pop the eye pillow over your eyes and enjoy your mini yoga savasana; once you pop, you can't stop! You have been warned...

Do you love candles? I do! Beeswax candles burn cleaner than natural wax candles without sticky, black petroleum based soot, produce negative ions that act as natural air cleaners, burn slowly with long burn times, are virtually dripless in a draft free environment, and create ambience with their warm amber glow. These Pom x Sri Sisters Beeswax candles are handmade by me, using pure beeswax from Bee Sustainable in East Brunswick.

When available I use ceramic mugs made by Koularagama Ceramics, a cooperative society of Sri Lankan women and men who make one off pieces inspired by Sri Lanka's abundant nature and wildlife.

Other styles using different containers are pictured below the Koularagama ceramic candles.

I love to knit and crotchet. I find it so relaxing and love the beautiful connections it has helped me make. I come from a long line of handcrafters, including my grandmothers and Mum. I am very grateful to them and many friends for sharing their skills and love of craft with me, bringing us all so much fun.
Donna, Bec and I love to knit these teddies and to crotchet these wash cloths too! People often comment on my public knitting. They share fond memories of their mums and grandmothers and how this is an art we need to keep alive. Fortunately I have my mum and my friend Donna helping me to keep up the demand for teddies. Any teddy knitters are welcome to join us.

I hope these products brings you as much joy as they have brought me in making them for you.

POM x Sri Sisters: Developing Community Connection

POM is working together with the women at the Kandy Women's Development Centre (WDC) to make a number of signature POM products using their own hand woven fabrics. This collaboration will result in POM x Sri Sisters, a line of products made by women in the Sri Lankan Community. You can see the beautiful Sri-Sisters hand loomed aprons, tea towels, and eye pillow pillowcases, pictured above.

POM and POM x Sri Sisters is an attempt to share the incredible handiwork of the women, while providing them with the opportunity to develop their confidence and skills and gain greater financial independence. In addition profit made by POM is being used to set up fund for education and training for the women at the WDC, and to support other community projects.
